Mr. Deal is currently the owner of PSD Holding, LLC and its subsidiaries, which are land investment and development companies. A lifelong farmer, Mr. Deal is the founder and former Chairman and CEO of The NAU Group (known today as QBE NAU Insurance) and Mountain States, the predecessor to what is now Rural Community Insurance Services ("RCIS"). NAU and RCIS are two of the three largest crop insurance companies in the United States, with gross premiums of approximately $4 billion between the two companies. He was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as administrator for the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation in the United States Department of Agriculture, and he is widely credited as being the principal architect of the modern day federal crop insurance program.
Mr. Deal was appointed by Governor Dayton to serve on the Metropolitan Airports Commission Board and the Greater Minneapolis St. Paul Board. He has been active in fundraising for the Mercy Hospital Foundation, the St. Paul Archdiocese and St. Stephens Church.
He and his wife Pam have six children, 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
